Springs Road Litter Traps

The Springs Road catchment is the next major catchment after the Kerwyn Avenue catchment with the potential of contributing industrial contamination to the Otara Lake.

Meritec Limited has recently prepared a report for Manukau City Council assessing the feasibility of possible stormwater treatment options for this catchment. The report identifies an existing public open space area off Springs Road that could be used for the treatment of stormwater before it discharges into the estuarine environment of Otara Creek.

Meritec’s recommended solution is for a wetland system which will remove approximately 40 to 50% of suspended solids plus additional fine colloidal and dissolved pollutants by the macrophyte (plant) sections of the wetland. Consent applications for this wetland system will be lodged with the ARC in 2001.
