Springs Road Reserve
  • Application to IA of $697,000 (50% funding approved)
    - Installation of 2 gross pollutant interceptors (CDS units)
    - Construction commences today
  • Stage 1 riparian planting to improve water quality and provide habitat completed
  • Stage 2 riparian planting – application for $100,000 currently lodged with IA
  • This Reserve forms part of proposed Otara HeritageTrail

  • Installed on 2 main tributaries of the Lake
  • $90,000 (50% funding provided from IA)
  • 1 working very well, other to be relocated to less energetic section of stream.

Aim of Riparian Improvements

  • Rehabilitate streams and banks of streams to a more natural condition.
  • Will improve water quality
    - shade = lower temperatures
    - slows down flows
    - reduces bank erosion
  • Provides better habitat for stream ecosystems
  • Provides “ecological link” from headwaters to Estuary (1900ha catchment area)

  • Wetland provides >75% sediment removal efficiency
