Weymouth walkway.

Weymouth Walkway.

Stunning westward views of Manukau Harbour and easy access are features of the Weymouth Walkway.

For most of its route from Roys Road in the south to Hanford Place on the shores of Puhinui Creek, the walkway comprises a wide concrete path which follows the gentle contours of the land above Weymouth Beach.

At several intervals along the walkway, side tracks lead walkers down gravel paths and / or steps to the beach, where there are plenty of opportunities to explore rock pools and observe the wide variety of coastal birdlife.

Fishing and shellfish gathering is popular in this area. Along most of the beach, especially at the southern end, is a wide grass berm sheltered by trees, which provides many ideal spots for picnicking.

Perhaps the highlight of the walkway is the ever-changing views afforded of this tidal area of Manukau Harbour and the Puhinui Creek. As the sea recedes, extensive tidal rock shelves are revealed.

The upper reaches of the inlet feature mangrove forest and views across the unique, and ecologically important, landscape of the Puhinui Reserve.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome along the walkway provided they are kept under control and do not disturb wildlife or other park users. Dogs are not permitted on sport fields or near children's playgrounds.

Access

From Roys Road to Hanford Place will take 30 to 40 minutes at an easy pace (not including side diversions). Its easy grade makes the walkway ideal for wheelchair use and people with pushchairs.
