The Otara Walkway is approximately 5½ km in length and takes about 2 hours to walk the length of the walkway.
The walkway passes through a significant area of open space in Otara totalling some 220 hectares inclusive of the waterway and Otara Creek. It forms a green corridor through Otara and links the Otara Town Centre with Hillary College, Ngati Otara Park and Otara Lake.
Of particular interest are the mangroves that grow in the tidal mudflat zones and the associated wildlife.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome along the walkway provided they are kept under control and do not disturb wildlife or other park users. Dogs are not permitted on sport fields or near children's playgrounds.
Access
The walkway starts at the end of Kaitawa Cres and follows the Otara Creek around to East Tamaki Road and back to Kaitawa Cres (the loop back is along the road).
From the Otara Town Centre access is gained through Lovegrove Cresent where walkway passes northwards along the recently planted banks of the Otara Creek.
