Mangemangeroa Reserve.

Mangemangeroa Reserve.

Walkways * Ecological Bush * Lease area

A magnificent landscape of farmland, coastal native bush and stunning estuary views.

The reserve is in the Mangemangeroa Valley, an area of significant scenic, environmental and cultural value. The valley includes archaeological sites such as several pa (fortified villages) and kumara (sweet potato) storage pits used by Ngatai and Ngatipaoa iwi in pre-European times. Both iwi are of Tainui waka (canoe) descent. Maori have lived in this area since the 14th century.

There is a small carpark beside the barn. From here you can take a 30 -45 minute loop walk -  climb over a stile and go down the hill to the boardwalk that runs through the wetlands. You will need to be reasonably fit as it is a little steep in places.

Access

It is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs as it is steep, there are some steps and part of it is across grass paddocks.
