Kohuora Park.

Kohuora Park.

Sports Grounds * Playground * Walkway * Heritage Site / Crater

Kohuora Park is located in a crater surrounded by restored wetlands and rare native plants.  This large park caters for both the active and passive recreational needs of the community.

The wetland within the park has rare native plant species and wildlife, and offers an abundant educational resource. It's a dynamic yet fragile environment which has undergone sensitive management and protection. Kohuora Park, with the help of the council and the local community, is now a valuable asset for the people of Manukau.

Kohuora Park is part of a volcanic cone known as Kohuora Crater. The crater is a V-shaped depression about 30m deep and forms part of a complex of predominantly explosive volcanoes in and around Papatoetoe. This field includes:

  • Kohuora
  • Pukaki
  • Cemetery Crater
  • Crater Hill.

Kohuora Crater is a large, low profile, double-lobbed tuff crater. It is thought to have at least four explosive vents which were active between 20,000 to 30,000 years ago.
