Hampton Park / Te Puke o Tara.

Hampton Park/Te Puke Tara.

Premier park * Heritage site

Hampton Park is situated on one of the last volcanic cones rising above the industrial roofs of East Tamaki.

The park and neighbouring church land make up the remaining 13 hectares of a 160 hectare farm established by Reverend Gideon Smales in the late 1850s. As a heritage site restoration has already begun, however more work is needed to conserve and enhance the area.

The historic stone church on the Gideon Smales church site property was built between 1859 and 1862 by the Rev Gideon Smales, a Wesleyan missionary and pioneer Auckland farmer.  You can read more about the church on the The Anglican Diocese of Auckland website.

Although Hampton park is not open to the public there are guided ranger walk and talks. Please contact us for further information.
