Beachlands-Maraetai Walkway

 Beachlands-Maraetai Walkway.

The Beachlands-Maraetai Walkway is a stunning coastal walkway and cycle path that winds along Auckland’s south-eastern coast. It connects the settlements of Beachlands and Maraetai and offers breathtaking views of the Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke Island and the Coromandel Peninsula.

This 6 km walkway has significant Maori and European history and an array of interesting coastal flora and fauna. With a few brief stops along the way, the walkway takes the average walker about one and a half hours.

Some of the highlights of the walkway include:

  • Beautiful beaches at Maraetai, Te Pene and Omana Espanade Reserve
  • The Maori pou at Te Puru Park
  • Omana Regional Park
  • Historic points of interest such as an old sheep dipping station at Omana and the O-Manawatere Pa site at Omana Regional Park.

Other highlights include:

Educational heritage experience – ranger guided walks are offered here three times a year. Check out our events calendar or phone the Auckland Council on 09 301 0101 to find out when the next guided walk is being held.
