Growing for health. 

Local and Sports Parks South has teaching gardens at different parks around Manukau to help teach residents basic gardening techniques that can be taken back to the home.

Gardening plots are 5x5m in size with each plot allocated to participants to grow vegetables for a season (Winter or Summer). Participants will be taught basic gardening skills from seed germination through to growing and harvesting. Participants will be able to keep the produce grown.

Access to a gardening plot is free and all resources are supplied, such as teaching instructors/mentors, gardening tools, gardening book, seeds/plants and diary.

Any interested group, family or individual can apply.

The programme takes place at the following reserves:

    • Middlemore Reserve, Papatoetoe
    • Stadium Reserve, Papatoetoe
    • Old School Reserve, Mangere
    • Centre Park, Mangere
    • East Tamaki Reserve, Otara
    • Maich Park, Manurewa
    • Charntay Park, Otara

How to apply for a plot

 If you would like to apply for the allocation of a teaching garden plot, please fill out the Teaching Garden Plot application form (DOC 92kb).
