In this part of the website you can find out about:
Manukau City Council manages a number of parks that are recognised for their conservation value. We are fortunate here in Manukau to have a variety of conservation parkland in our city to enjoy.
These parks can include areas of remnant native bush (e.g. Clevedon Scenic, Mangemangeroa, Murphy's Bush, Totara Park), wetlands (e.g. Kohuora wetland), volcanic ecosystems (e.g. Pigeon Mountain, Mangere Mountain and the Otuataua Stonefields), not to mention streams and beaches. Some of these parks are home to rare plants and animals, such as the native kauri tree and the indigenous parrot the kaka.
Manukau Parks carries out weed and pest animal control in conservation areas to protect our native biodiversity. Pest control is complemented with an annual tree planting programme which involves the planting of thousands of native trees across the city.
