Deciding who is eligible
Manukau City Council will seriously consider your application if:
- You are a New Zealand resident
- You do not currently own a home
- You cannot afford to house yourself
- You are over 60 (priority is given to applicants over 65)
- You need long term accommodation
- You have a good history with previous landlords.
Who gets priority?
We allocate housing according to those most in need through a points system:
- Council allocates point according to each problem being experienced, those with the most points are helped first
- We can only allocate accommodation when a unit becomes available
- You may have to wait a period of time before a unit becomes available

- There are some one bedroom units for couples
- All units have floor coverings, window blinds, a cooker and heater.

What do the units cost?
Our housing services are for elderly in the community who have minimal savings and require assistance with housing. Rents are very reasonable.

Tenants must pay a bond of two weeks rent. We also require two weeks rent in advance.
Commonly asked questions
Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Animals are not permitted in any of the units. The only exceptions are small birds, fish and one neutered cat per unit.
Q: Can I have a separate bedroom?
A: Only if you intend to live in Manurewa or Mangere, where Inverell Court and Court Town Close have some units with separate bedrooms for single people.
Q: Can I get help with initial expenses?
A: Income Support may be able to give you a loan to help you with expenses.
Q: How do I apply?
A: Complete and send in an
application form (PDF 233kb). We will then make a time to visit and discuss your needs. You will receive notification if you will be put on a waiting list for a unit or we are uable to assist you.

- Security lighting is provided
- Emergency after-hours phone service
- Supervision and security services: a warden system operates whereby a warden or "good neighbour" visits each court regularly to support tenants and ensure they have no maintenance or other tenancy worries. Security guards visit the courts nightly.
