Child advocacy group.

The Child Advocacy Group strives for better opportunities for Manukau's children, with a focus on those aged 12 years and under.

The group was formed in 1993 and is made up of Healthy City signatories and other health, education and social organisational representatives with an interest in children's issues.

Objectives

  • To reduce child poverty by working towards healthy and well housed people who are economically secure, active and involved in their community
  • To identify and act upon issues that impact on children's health and wellbeing
  • To provide support and advocacy for family violence providers working with children.

The Child Advocacy Group meets once a month to discuss and respond to local children's issues. It is run in partnership with the Manukau City Council through the role of the Child Advocacy Coordinator.

This coordinator advocates for children's issues within Manukau city and establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders.
