Matariki ki Manukau.

Hoki whakamuri, kia anga whakamua
Look to the past in order to forge the future

When: 14 June -14 July 2010
Where: Various venues in Manukau and the Auckland region.

Toi o Manukau and Manukau Arts encourage people to mark the Māori New Year and take part in one of the many Matariki experiences happening around Manukau and the Auckland region. There will be Matariki-related exhibitions at Manukau arts centres and a full programme of events at Manukau Libraries.

During Matariki learn something new and explore the culture and arts all around us.

The pre-dawn rising of the star cluster Matariki is significant to Māori and is referred to as Te Tau Hou, the Māori New Year. Matariki was traditionally known as a time for people to share kai, rituals, entertainment, hospitality and learning. Nowadays, Matariki takes on more and more importance not just for Māori, but also for the wider community.
