What council does about litter.

Contractors clean the following public areas of Manukau City:

  • All public roads
  • Footpaths
  • Public shopping areas
  • Some council properties.

Cleaning includes:

  • Collecting litter
  • Servicing and maintaining litterbins
  • Washing footpaths
  • Sweeping car parks
  • Cleaning walkways and bus shelters
  • Removing illegally dumped refuse
  • Collecting from recycling facilities on beaches
  • Collecting bagged refuse from council facilities.

Cleaning of public areas is funded through rates.

Litterbins

Council-provided litterbins are restricted to shopping areas that are on public land. Privately developed shopping areas are required to provide council with a Waste Management Plan.

Waste partnerships

In addition to providing rubbish and recycling services, we also work with Central Government and other partners on waste issues. We regulary make submissions to the Government on policy and legislation, and take part in the Auckland Regional Waste Forum.
