Mangere Town Centre and Neighbourhood District Plan
New streets, a wider range of housing and a strong focus on the community are part of a new town plan for Mangere town centre.
Known as the Mangere Town Centre and Neighbourhood District Plan - Proposed Plan Change 26 , formal submissions can now be made as part of the district plan change process.
Features of the plan
- A proposed new street between Waddon Place and Windrush Close to create better connections with the town centre
- Strong focus on urban design quality
- Re-zoning of Paynes Island reserve and 140R Bader Drive on the corners of Mascot Ave and Bader Drive, and Court Town Close and Bader Drive, which will allow for community and retail use, and residential use respectively
- Five ‘Management Areas’ – Mangere Town Centre; Mangere Community; Residential; Local Shops; and Streets Open Spaces and Walkways
- Protected buildings, objects and trees
- Designations and conditions
- A simplified planning process, including changes to resource consent approvals for buildings
- Non-notification of Restricted Discretionary Activities
- Assessment against the council’s Residential Apartment Design Guide and Draft Residential Design Guide
- A new planning map.
Rejuvenation of the town centre will go hand in hand with improving residential quality and better connecting people with services, transport and amenities.
The town plan will be used by the new Auckland Council to guide development in the area as it grows during the next 50 years. It recognises that a range of things need to happen to revitalise the area. They include community involvement, partnerships with a range of agencies and public investment in infrastructure.
