Injury Free Counties Manukau reminds residents to look out for children when reversing out of driveways. The request follows two recent tragedies in Manukau.
Homes with shared driveways and public car parks pose a significant risk to child pedestrians under the age of five.
Manukau City Council’s manager Community Safety and Health Lyn Blaker says driveway runovers are a major cause of child pedestrian injuries in the Auckland region.
“Make sure you check where the little ones are before you get in the car. Separate play areas from car access - they don’t mix, and always supervise young children around vehicles.”
