The first theatre event at the new Mangere Arts Centre – Ngā Tohu o Uenuku will now be a performance by local Manurewa comedy company the Kila Kokonut Krew.
The scheduled season of Iaheto Ah Hi’s Tautai has been postponed due to a fa'alavelave within the cast, but Punalei Productions, the cast and crew look forward to announcing new dates soon.
Kila Kokonut Krew, fresh from an Australian tour, are set to reprise their sell-out show, Once Were Samoans.
Once Were Samoans was staged to great acclaim at the Manukau Festival of Arts ’08, following seasons in Auckland (Comedy Festival ‘06/’07), Wellington and at Hamilton’s Fuel Festival.
The comedy, written by Vela Manusaute and directed by Anapela Polataivao, follows the Tufifi family as they prepare for a family reunion.
They are: four unambitious sons, two obedient daughters who keep house and wait for marriage; and their commandant of a mother, who’s brought them up on her own because their good for nothing father ‘couldn’t handle the jandal’. The big fuss begins when a radical Maori golfer plots to steal one of her daughter.
