Building the right foundations for early childhood education

15/06/2010

Visiting Seelye Fellow and international early childhood education expert Naomi Eisenstadt CB is the key note speaker at Manukau’s Building the Right Foundations early childhood symposium being held this Friday.

Ms Eisenstadt was the first director of England’s Sure Start programme and the director of the United Kingdom’s Social Exclusion Task Force. She will share her experiences and provide ideas on how to deliver the best start to children by bringing together early childhood education, health and family support services.

The symposium will benefit managers and planners of early childhood education, health and social development services as well as community and voluntary agencies.

Manukau Mayor Len Brown will open the symposium. He is passionate about ensuring that every child in Manukau has access to early childhood education.

“Education is an area that I am very passionate about because I believe it is the foundation that our children and young people need to help them achieve their dreams and goals for the future,” says Mr Brown. “If we begin this as early as possible, from early childhood education, we will go a long way to fulfilling this.”

The symposium is a joint initiative of Manukau City Council, Te Tuia Well Child, New Zealand Child and Youth Epidemiology Service and The University of Auckland. Ms Eisenstaedt’s visit is sponsored by the Seelye Charitable Trust.
