Traffic management.

If your event will impact local traffic or involves street activities such as a parade or march you will need to provide details of this in your application for an events permit.

You should note:

  • Any required parking restrictions
  • Any Stop/Go controls
  • Any road closures
  • Your planned route
  • For a parade or march: the assembly and departure times of participants
  • For a parade: type and number of floats.

You may also be required to obtain a traffic management plan from a qualified traffic management contractor.

Road closure

If the event is happening on a street, it may require a road closure.

Applications for road closures must be received, in writing, at least six weeks prior to the event.  It is a legal requirement that road closures are advertised to the public.  The event organiser is responsible for paying these advertising costs.

We will liaise with external agencies such as New Zealand Police, emergency services, bus companies and Opus Consulting Limited to gain approval for the road closure.

Possible requirements for road closures include:

  • Hireage of barriers and signs
  • Marshals and appropriate clothing for them (fluorescent or identifiable vests or t-shirts)
  • Parking restrictions signage
  • Advisory signage
  • Communication with businesses and residents affected by the road closure.

Contact us to discuss the requirements of your road closure and to get advice.

Parking

Parking restrictions will not be changed for the purpose of providing free parking for those attending the event.

Here are some parking options for the public and event employees:

  • Local schools, churches, halls etc
  • Local parking buildings
  • Park and ride if parking is far from the event
  • Charter buses.

Parking for event organisers

You may need to have vehicles in parking spaces for longer than the stated times to allow access for setting up and packing down. We can provide advice on accommodating your parking requirements.
