Career opportunities.

With 42 per cent of Manukau's population under the age of 25, education and skills are an important focus for us.

We have produced a careers guide called ‘Planning Your Future: A Guide to Career Opportunities in the Auckland Region' (PDF 562kb). It provides a valuable insight into skill demands and job opportunities in the Auckland region up to 2016.

The guide will assist:

  • Students and young people trying to decide what to study and outline what skills are required
  • People planning to upskill to find new employment opportunities
  • Training institutes to plan courses that ensure graduates have the skills and knowledge required in the current labour market
  • Industry and business organisations with recruitment, training and succession planning.

Using a unique population based model, the guide outlines expected job opportunities in more than 200 different occupations categorised in five groups:

  • Management
  • Professionals
  • Technicians and Associate Professionals
  • Clerical and Administration, Sales and Services
  • Skilled Trade Workers.

The guide is part of our Future Skills plan of action to ensure the city has a highly skilled and adaptable workforce that has the ability to meet the demands and challenges of an ever-changing job market.
