Business improvement districts.

Business improvement districts (BIDs) are areas where local businesses have established a local association and work with the council to make their area successful.

In Manukau there are 13 business improvement districts covering town centres, industrial areas and neighbourhood shopping areas. They range in size from 30 to more than 1500 businesses.

Business improvement districts receive additional council funding generated through targeted rates, and support for programmes and activities to promote economic development in their area. It means funding is spent directly in the area it is collected from.
