Mayor’s Taskforce on Graffiti Reduction
In 2008, the council began a three-year project focusing on privately-owned commercial premises and utility facilities.
The aim of the taskforce is to establish a partnership between the council, business owners, and utility operators to eradicate graffiti vandalism on commercial premises.
The project is also funded by the Ministry of Justice, as a part of STOP (Stop Tagging Our Place) programme.

The STOP Strategy
On 15 February 2008, the Government launched a STOP (Stop Tagging Our Place) Strategy to assist communities across the country to deal with the issue of graffiti.

Auckland Region Graffiti Free Project
The council has been working with other local authorities and the Police on an Auckland Region Graffiti Free (ARGF) project. The project is jointly sponsored by the Auckland Region CEO Forum and the Police Board of Management in Auckland.

Graffiti Management Strategy
Council's Graffiti Management Strategy involves a step by step process focusing on seven areas such as the:
- Removal of graffiti
- Prevention of graffiti through education, community empowerment and enhanced participation
- Anti-graffiti design
- Regional coordination
- Effective legal boundaries
- Beautification.
