Graffiti legislation.

The Manukau Graffiti Act 2008 was signed by the Governor General 22 April 2008 and came into effect 23 April 2008. The Manukau City Council (Control of Graffiti) Act 2008 No 2 was repealed on 26 June 2008, and has been replaced by the Summary Offences (Tagging and Graffiti Vandalism) Amendment Act 2008 (2008 No 43).

The Act provides local control over the graffiti problem in Manukau city by:

  • Penalising graffiti offenders
  • Providing the council with power to remove graffiti
  • Provides the police with the power to request information and arrest an offender.
