0800 Stop 4 Red campaign: March - 30 April 2010
Thank you for taking the time to report observed drivers running red lights.
The popular campaign has now finished but you can still report red light runners to the NZ Police Community Road Watch either at your local police station on online at
www.police.govt.nz.
To report a driver you must have the following information:
- Vehicle registration number
- Colour of vehicle
- Name of road/intersection where the vehicle ran the red light
- Date and time that you saw the vehicle run the red light
We also require your name and contact details. It is standard practise to ask for contact details. The information you provide is completely confidential.
Registered owners of cars reported will be issued with a warning letter explaining the background of the campaign and urging them to respect other road-users.
0800 STOP 4 RED is supported by the Counties Manukau Police and ACC.
Road Safety
Safety on and around Manukau’s roads is important for pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers.
We spend more than $2 million a year on a variety of roading safety projects. These include:
- Intersection improvements
- Street lighting upgrades
- Road sign upgrades.

There was an overall downward trend in crash numbers and casualties throughout the 2001 - 2005 period. This is positive because it follows an increase especially given that it has occurred at a level greater than the annual traffic growth. Crash numbers in Manukau are consistent with national trends.
Progress has been made in continuing to improve road safety through engineering, enforcement, education and community involvement.
The main target areas for road safety for the next two years will include education and enforcement relating to speed, alcohol, and restraint usage.
The council will continue to carry out general road safety engineering improvements, with a focus on cycle and pedestrian safety.
