Manukau food premises are inspected every 6-12 months by an Environmental Health Officer. Those premises with a consistently high level of food hygiene may be inspected once a year.
Environmental Health Officers inspect to check compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974 and its associated
bylaw (PDF 28kb). As a result, the food premise is awarded a grade which reflects the level of compliance of the business on the day of the inspection.
The inspection includes:
- A review of the structural fit out and maintenance of the premises including suitable hand washing facilities
- A review of all food handling and storage
- Worker conduct
- Pest control
- Inspection of the cleanliness of the premises and all fixtures, including fittings and equipment
- Presence of a first aid kit, required signage, grade certificate and current Certificate of Registration are displayed.
