What is a Land Information Memorandum?

A Land Information Memorandum (LIM) (PDF 66k) is a report containing property information that the council has in its records.

The property information in a LIM can underline decisions about whether the land is suitable for any intended use in the future.

It is a good idea to obtain a LIM prior to purchasing or selling a property.

A LIM is likely to contain the following information:

  • Official address
  • Legal description of the area
  • Zoning
  • Resource consents and building consents
  • Public works
  • Map of property
  • Site specific plans
  • Government valuation
  • Rates and water charges
  • Sundry debts
  • Pools registration
  • Restrictions
  • Licences
  • Compliance schedules
  • Requisitions (covering building, plumbing and drainage, pool fencing, dangerous goods, health, fire and egress, and planning).

How do I obtain a LIM?

You can get a LIM by completing the LIM application (PDF 158 kb) and posting the form along with the appropriate fees to:
