Moving towards a single council
The councils in the Auckland region have been working cooperatively to move smoothly to the new Auckland Council on 1 November 2010.
That cooperation has helped us standardise Resource consent online information and produce a single set of associated forms. You can use these forms now at any local government organisation in the Auckland area.
About putting up a sign
Signs help identify places and businesses and assist with traffic safety. However, they may also create traffic hazards or create visual clutter in residential and rural areas. For these reasons their size and placement is controlled under the District Plan.
- You may erect a single sign not exceeding 1.8 metres in height and 0.6 metres² in area to identify a permitted activity
- You may erect a single or composite sign not exceeding 2.4 metres in height and 1.2 metres² in area to identify other activities, for which you have a resource consent
- Your sign may also require a building consent, depending on its size and design
- Manukau Water and other utility operators’ approval may be required before installation.
Consents required
You may require a building consent and a resource consent depending on the scope of your project. For further information please view the information sheets in the 'See also' box.
